How We Met
Austin and I met when we were 14 years old, on September 2nd, 2008, our first day of high school. We had gone to different middle schools, so he was the “new kid” to me, and he was so out of my league! We developed a friendship in our sophomore leadership class, where we bonded over our love of Taco Bell. Throughout our junior year, we remained friends as he played basketball and I was a cheerleader, but our relationship really took off our senior year. Austin took me on our first state to the Spokane County Fair (my first time) on September 17th, 2011. We made it “official” on November 23rd that year, and have been together ever since! Through 2 years of long distance, Austin and I learned what unconditional love is, and learned that love truly does endure all things. Love never fails, and we are a true testament to that.
how they asked
On February 25th, one of Austin’s friends asked me to meet up to get some “girl advice”. We met at a coffee shop in downtown Spokane, but Andrew said he was “too nervous and jittery” to sit, and wanted to take a walk. Thinking nothing of it, I headed out the door with him. We walked and talked until we ended up near one of my favorite Spokane spots, Riverfront Park. Andrew said he wanted to show me “where he first remembered seeing Austin’s family”, and has since told me he’s glad I only had to think he was weird for saying that for a few minutes. We headed into the park, towards a bridge in front of the iconic Spokane clocktower, where I could see there were lights set up that weren’t usually there. After waiting 4 and a half years for Austin to propose, I didn’t allow myself to get my hopes up that it was for me until Andrew set me in front of the TV and said, “I’m just going to leave you here”. Austin had hired a videographer to interview my family, his family, and our closest friends, so I got to hear the most important people in our lives tell me how much they love me, and congratulate me on my engagement. At the end of the video, it said “turn around” and Austin was right behind me. He promised to love me, serve me, and pursue me for the rest of my life, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I’ve never been more excited in my entire life, and of course, said YES. We have since set the date for the wedding exactly 5 years after our fist date to the fair, September 17th, 2016.
