How We Met
You know the saying, “you’ll find love when you stop looking for it”? William made me a firm believer in it. Once you stop looking for what you want, you find what you need. I had just graduated college and decided I was going to focus on myself, that meant no boys allowed, I was settling into my “adult life” and didn’t want any distractions, I started my new job that summer, and as you can guess, that idea quickly went out the window. I had no idea my whole life was about to change. My job introduced me to not only my fiancé but two of my bridesmaids and a royal reader!
William and I started off as just friends; he said he wasn’t looking for a relationship either and he “didn’t do the whole girlfriend thing.” It seemed harmless. The more we spent time together and talked, however, we quickly realized there was something special here. Although he doesn’t admit this to most people, I was the first one to make a move. He likes to tell everyone that it was his cheesy pickup line, “Will You Marry Me?” that won my heart. Little did we both know, his pickup line was a precognition of the future. It took him one month to ask me to be his girlfriend.
how they asked
It was an ordinary day, or so I thought. I was rushing home from work to walk the dog because William was working the night shift that day. Usually, I am greeted at the door with a wagging tail, overly enthusiastic little fur ball. But as I opened the door, he was nowhere to be seen. I started to panic. Then the little fluff ball came running towards me, jumping up and down. I noticed he wasn’t wearing the hoodie he had on this morning but I couldn’t read the writing on this new one. I picked him up and started to read his shirt, when out of the corner of my eye I saw him, my Prince Charming.
He was down on one knee, dressed head to toe as my real-life Prince Charming, ring box in hand. I suddenly realized that one of my favorite songs was playing in the background and a slideshow of pictures of the two of us was on the tv screen. Tears welling up in my eyes, I looked at my Prince Charming and finally read my dog’s shirt, “Alexis, Will You Marry My Daddy?” Still, in shock, I nodded, said: “yes of course!” And he put the beautiful ring on my finger. There, right in the middle of an ordinary day, in an ordinary life, love gave me a fairytale. I had found my Prince Charming to live my Happily Ever After with.
Growing up as a little girl addicted to Disney movies, and Disney World being my favorite place, he made our engagement even more magical, a few months later, when he took me to Disney World to Cinderella’s Royal Table. I visit Disney World once a year, but believe it or not I have never been to the Royal Table! The whole day was magical. We got to spend time with Cinderella herself and relieve our engagement all over. Although William wasn’t in his Prince Charming outfit this time, he did have a T-shirt made that said: “I’m her Prince Charming.”
So this is love and my Happily Ever After.
