How We Met
I (Alexis) had just moved to Minnesota from a short stint in Colorado, after spending most of my life in New York. Since I was new to the area, I downloaded a dating app. One night I received a notification it’s a match!” and that is where our story started. Ryan messaged me telling me I had beautiful eyes and the rest was history. We agreed to meet up at Lake Calhoun for a walk on a “warm” winter day. Here in Minnesota, that meant it was probably around 30 degrees (Ryan says it was colder). Although we were both were freezing, we couldn’t stop talking. The conversation was endless and I always say “I knew he was different.” We agreed to hang out again and would continue talking through the year but life took is in different directions. We Always had each other in the back of our minds because that date was unforgettable. It wasn’t until February of 2016 when we made it official! I was standing at a bar in a crowd of over 100,000 people in Saint Paul, MN at Crashed Ice when I looked to my left and there was Ryan! We knew from that night that it was a sign and we been inseparable ever since. The picture attached is from our very first “real” date.
how they asked
We went on our first trip together back in July of 2016 to Duluth, MN and stayed at Pier B Resort. The Resort supplied S’mores packs containing a graham cracker, marshmallow, and a piece of chocolate along with a note with a quote from “The Sandlot” with instructions on how to make a S’more.
While sitting next to the campfire Ryan told Me that night, he knew he was going to marry me. Flash forward two years later to July 2018. Back at our favorite resort in Duluth, Pier B! Friday night Ryan and I went down to the campfire to make S’mores. Ryan went inside to get the S’more pack but this one looked a little different!
I looked inside and there was a note saying “I could not ask for anything S’more” and on the other side it said, “Will you Marry me?” Ryan got down on one knee as the sun was setting, I was so excited I couldn’t even remember if I said yes! Pictures below are from the first trip to Duluth with the “original” s’mores kit and the one from this year!
