Alexis and Jake
How We Met
Jake and I met in 2008 during our Freshman yeah of High School. Jake sat behind me in our Spanish class, but with him being shy and me being a transfer student there wasn’t much communication. Jake and I eventually started dating after our Freshman Homecoming, but like many first relationships it came to a close after about two weeks when Jake broke up with me during passing time, after a quick, “I don’t think we should be together” and a mad dash to the end of the hall. Over the next two years our friend circles began to merge and Jake and I found ourselves getting to know each other better. It wasn’t until February 14, 2011 when we became an official couple; spending our last year and half of High School together.
As our Senior year came to a close we both decided to stay local for college. I was accepted into a local university and Jake was on the fast track to being a firefighter/ paramedic. College brought difficult times, but with love we were able to get through it all. Over the past six years we have been able to watch each other grow and accomplish our dreams. Just this past year Jake landed his dream job as a firefighter/ paramedic and I will be graduating this coming May.
how they asked
Jake had planned this special date night for us to go to the Botanical Gardens Garden Glow event because Christmas Lights are my favorite. Before we even got there I had told him that I knew of someone getting engaged there that night and that if I were to witness it I would cry both happy and jealousy tears all at once. Turns out we were only feet in front of the soon to be engaged couple and were able to witness it all; I decided not to focus in on what I had witnessed and decided to just live in the moment and enjoy the date Jake had planned. After a few minutes of walking we came across this perfectly, beautiful lit Christmas tree. Like any girl I knew this would be a perfect photo-op moment, but before I could even ask Jake if we could take a picture he asked me. Thinking back this was very unlike Jake who hates pictures, but anyways we asked the man in front of us if he could take our picture by the tree. Fearing that we were being an inconvenience after the man took one I said thank you and was ready to move along. However, Jake asked the man if he could take one more. As the man began to take the picture Jake began to speak, “Alexis Laine Holman…” immediately I said, “Is this real?” Without answering my question Jake continued, “Alexis Laine Holman will you marry me?” I, of course, said yes and just as I did my mom and his mom appeared out of the crowd and were there to celebrate with us in this moment. I soon came to find out that Jake had hired a photographer to capture the whole moment and had a group of our friends waiting at a local bar for us. The night was truly magical.
