We met a few years ago in church. We started off as friends, even though I originally had a crush on him. At the time, the feelings were not mutual. As we grew closer as friends, Darryl revealed he liked me. We talked for about 3 months before he asked me to be his girlfriend on October 31, 2013. We were dating for a little over a year before we started talking about getting married.
how they asked: We went to Longwood Gardens on December 28th, a week before the proposal. We both loved it and Darryl said he wanted to come back the following weekend. We went again on the 4th of January. Darryl had just gotten a new phone so he was taking a ton of pictures.
We went throughout the entire park, taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful decorations they set up every year around Christmas time. He said we were saving the conservatory, our favorite spot, for last. So we went in every tree house and walked down every path until we finally made it to the conservatory. In here, they keep hundreds of different plants/ flowers.
Since it was their “Longwood Christmas” display, there were lights on almost every tree outside and multiple decorated Christmas trees all over the park. Darryl and I had went through all the little rooms in the conservatory until we reached what they call the “East Conservatory.” Darryl wanted us to get a picture with the trees and water display behind us, so he asked a security guard to take some for us.
After about 10 pictures, I tell Darryl we don’t need that many and he asked the guard to take one more picture. As I start smiling for the next picture, Darryl reached into his pocket and got down on his knee. I was so shocked all I could do was put my hands over my mouth and wait for my brain to register what was happening.
He told me he loved me and asked if I would do him the honor of marrying him. Of course, I said yes!
