How We Met
We both met each other at college. We both played on the men’s and women’s basketball teams for the school. I never saw him around, but he saw me around from time to time. Once the basketball season started, we kept seeing more of each other in passing. Just saying hi and bye and asking how each other’s day went. He actually requested to follow me on Instagram about a month and a half before he started talking to me! I had no idea he had requested me until he made a comment about it in passing. As the season went on we both started hanging out in the same friend group and noticed that there was a connection between us. We started hanging out trying to get to know one another, went on dates, worked out with each other, cheered each other on at our games, etc. Being in the college atmosphere and having a boyfriend/girlfriend is hard, but we were able to fight through those battles. We were told our school was shutting down permanently because they went bankrupt. We were all devasted, but that meant that everyone was going to be separated. I live only about 45 minutes from the school and he lived about 12 hours away in North Carolina.
We weren’t sure if long distance would work just because of what we had experienced before. I was so in love with him before we left school and knew that he was the one for me. I couldn’t let him out of my life. We visited each other about a month after we left campus and the connection and sparks were more intense and real than ever and I think it was a clarification for both of us that we couldn’t let each other go. I went home after that trip and father sadly passed away unexpectedly. He was the first one I called and he did not hesitate to come to me. As I was on the phone with him he started packing and within only a couple of minutes his dad had him to the airport and on a flight to come to me. After this, we spent every month alternating who traveled to see who for about a year. I decided to make the move down to North Carolina in May and we have grown even closer than I could’ve imagined. He asked me to marry him on October 22, 2020, and I couldn’t be happier. He is truly the love of my life and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Who knew a stranger at a new school would turn into my boyfriend, fiancé, and future husband!
How They Asked
We had gone to look at rings a couple of times because we had discussed that we both want to marry each other and that we were ready to do it. Soooo I knew it was coming but didn’t know when it would happen! My little sister had worn a super cute outfit to church the week before he came to visit me and she didn’t end up getting a picture in it, so she had asked me “can we go take pictures somewhere in Winston in the same outfit because I really liked it!” I agreed and the day she asked me to go, Anthony was here. We picked the place Quarry Park in Winston-Salem.
My mom came along with my two younger brothers. At first, I was not having it because I was super hangry and wanted food, but Anthony was able to put me in a better mood and have a fun little photoshoot with my sister and me.
As time went on, my sister was done with her pictures, but Anthony said “ya know we didn’t get many pictures can we go back up onto the bridge and take more?” I said yes we can that would be cute! We started taking cute pictures and looked at the view and before you know it he got down on one knee and asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him.
I was speechless I tried talking but couldn’t get anything out, of course, I said yes! He blew me away with the ring. There are no words to describe the joy and happiness I am feeling. #FutureMrsTurnbow
