How We Met
Tony and I met 7 years ago through my brother-in-law at a fantasy football draft. I made the first move and asked my brother-in-law for his number. I told my best friend he was going to be my boyfriend even though we had never spoken to one another. I’m not sure where my confidence came from! We hung out a few times, but he was just starting to coach soccer on top of his regular job and was very busy, so we went our separate ways.
I was a little disappointed because I was so sure he was the one! It didn’t take long for us to start spending more time together and eventually start officially dating (even though we do not have an anniversary date!). We dated for 4 years before moving in together and have been living together for 3 years now! He’s my best friend and we have so many amazing memories together.
How They Asked
Tony bought my ring during the COVID pandemic, which was no easy task. He knew the type of ring I wanted (solitaire oval with a thin band) and his sister was very helpful in the ring purchasing process. It was no secret I had been waiting for this day for years but Tony always told me he would do it in his own time when the moment was right. On Father’s Day, we hosted my family for a cookout and he asked my dad’s permission to marry me. After lunch, my nephew wanted to play kickball in the backyard. Tony knows how important my nephews and family are to me so he played with us. I was pitching the ball and he kicked it past me.
When I was running to get the ball he shouted my name and when I turned around he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I can’t remember exactly what I said but it was something along the lines of “oh my god are you serious??” My family was there taking a video and it was the best day! Looking back there were many things that indicated that he was going to do it but I missed all the signs! He later told me that he envisioned proposing to me while I was playing with my nephews with my family around. I didn’t think he would be able to surprise me after all this time. I thought for sure I would know exactly when he was going to do it, so I’m very happy it happened the way it did. After the proposal, we went to visit the rest of our family and they made the rest of our day so special. His family has been waiting as long as me and I’m so grateful both of our families were included in the process and the engagement!
