Alexandra and Jason

How we met: Jason and I met back in September of 2009 while still in college. It was a day of celebrating: it was Homecoming at our now alma mater, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. It had been raining all day, so I naturally left for the event with my black and white polka dot umbrella. Per usual, I lost my umbrella. A few hours later, I noticed a handsome man in a seersucker bow tie proudly holding my lost polka dot umbrella. I was so excited and I ran over to him to inform him he in fact had MY umbrella. He smiled, we exchanged looks.. it turns out we had mutual friends. He offered to walk me to the next Homecoming event and we have been inseparable ever since!

This picture was taken at our first official date back in September of 2009, WOW!

how they asked: Jason and I were vacationing with my entire family at Topsail Island for a week in August. At around 6AM, Jason woke me up requesting that I go on a “sunrise” walk on the beach with him. Given that neither of us are early birds, or sunrise watchers for that matter, I was surprised when he asked me to go. While walking on the beach, he kept fidgeting with his phone and rambling on nonsense, which is quite unusual for my always put together Jason. At exactly 6:29, Jason dropped down to one knee and asked me (by using my full name, totally swooning at this point) to marry him. Of course i’m freaking out, asking him if he asked my dad.. if my family knew, etc. I turned around to three of my cousins running towards us total paparazzi style. They had been in on the mission hiding behind the sand dunes and documented the entire thing. After 5 years of dating, I was more than excited to say YES.

After we left the beach, we made our way back to the beach house where we got to wake up the rest of my family and tell them the exciting news. There were happy tears, prayers and excitement. We got to share the special day with my family celebrating and boating around the island. To say it was the best day ever would be an understatement!
