How We Met
Dustin and I met my senior year of high school. While at a mutual friend’s party, I spotted Dustin across the room. Without any reservations, I went up to him and introduced myself. It was so loud that I didn’t catch his name! We smiled politely and went our separate ways. I asked my best friend who “that guy” was and she told me his name. We found each other on Facebook and began talking. A few weeks later, they met up for a late night stroll and got to know each other more.
On the rainy morning of May 15th, 2011, we went out for donuts together. It was then that hinted that I was ready to take the next step. He asked me to be his girlfriend and I said ”Yes!” to him for the first time.
Over the past 7 years, we’ve shared countless adventures together. From dating long distance to moving in together, there’s no one else that I could imagine spending the rest of my life with. Every day we strive to encourage, support and love each other with all that we have.
How They Asked
On New Year’s day, we both woke up and Dustin mentioned going for a walk around the lake where we had our first official date. I didn’t think too much about it as he had been talking about doing this for a few weeks. We made breakfast and took our time to get ready. It was SO cold and windy that I told him I didn’t want to go anymore. He spoke the magic words, “Let’s get coffee” and I reluctantly agreed to go out in the cold.
After we our coffee stop, he pulled up to the lake. It was 3:30 and my wedding photographer brain though “Hm… this is the perfect time for photos.” I glanced around to see if his sister’s car was in sight because I knew he’d ask her to capture the moment for us. Nope. No car. Guess it isn’t happening today.
As they began to walk up to the lake, I asked Dustin to set 3 goals for 2019: a personal, a career, and a relationship goal. Little did I know, I set up the conversation perfectly for what was about to come next. As I was about to tell Dustin my relationship goal (hopefully to get engaged this year!!!), Dustin turned me quickly. I spotted his sister and I instantly starting crying. This is it. It was finally happening!!!! He interrupted me and said, “Well, my relationship goal is to propose to you right now. Will you marry me?” Of course, I said “YES!”
