Alexandra and Cody

How We Met

Cody and I met on the very first day of our sophomore year in high school, I was 14 years old, and he was 15. We had the same first period, and ended up sitting at opposite ends of the room that morning. I’ll never forget the first time I saw him, during the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of class, there was an instant connection. We made eye contact, and knew we had to find out more about one another. We didn’t get a chance to talk to each other until later that day when we ended up in the same class again, fourth period English class. However this time my seat was assigned right next to his. I’m a big believer in everything happening for a reason, and knew that it wasn’t a coincidence we ended up sitting next to each other, it was only a matter of time until we found each other.

how they asked

Cody flew me out to San Francisco, CA to meet up with him for an extended weekend vacation (he had been out in California for a month with his company.) I knew we were making a trip out to Napa Valley that Friday, but had no clue what wineries. So early Friday morning we hit the road and made the drive from San Francisco to Napa. As we pulled into the first winery, my jaw dropped when I saw the brick and cast iron that built the most beautiful castle I’ve ever seen, Castello di Amorosa. Cody told me this was out first stop and that had reserved us two spots in a tour of the winery/castle. We got out of the car, walked up to the front gates and, I remember Cody having to run back to the car to “get his phone that he left.” He walked back just in time for the start of our tour. We walked all throughout the castle learning about its history, how the wine here was made, and even checking out the authentic  underground torture chamber that was built exactly as it would’ve been in the medieval times. Near the end of the tour we got to taste a series of different wines made on the property. During our tasting, Jose (a hospitality specialist at the castle) came up to our group to announce that Cody and I had won an “extended tour of the castle up to the North Tower.” I have to admit, Cody played it off pretty well about acting surprised when this happened. We finished up our last tasting and followed Jose up to the tallest tower at the Castle, the North Tower. While I walked up three long flights of stairs, Cody handed off our camera to Jose to take a couple of pictures when we got to the top. The view on top of that tower was incredible, but all I was able to focus on when we got to the top was the man of my dreams dropping down to one knee and saying “You have been my princess since the first day I met you, so it was only right for me to bring you to a castle to ask you to marry me. Alexandra Marie Young, will you marry me?”
