How They Asked
We woke up on Thanksgiving morning in our Hoboken apartment, ready to drive down to the beach to be with our families in Sea Girt and Spring Lake, NJ. Our plan was to spend some time with Andrew’s family before they started eating and then switch over to mine. I got ready at my house and although I thought it was funny my dad took a photo of me before leaving, I thought it was just because I dressed so nice! (Which I’m very thankful for doing now!)
Andrew had asked me if I could help take photos of his family for their Christmas card. Here I am thinking they meant inside but when Andrew picked me up and said we were meeting them at the beach….in 40 MPH winds…I told him they were crazy! I was not happy, to say the least.
We pulled up to the pavilion at Trenton in Sea Girt and I refused to get out of the car. I had just gotten all ready for the day and his family was nowhere to be seen yet. I made Andrew call his parents to see if they were close but as I would soon find out, they were waiting on a side street for the big moment to happen!
I reluctantly got out of the car and followed Andrew to the beach so he could “scope out” a spot for their family photo. Only when he turned to me and started telling me how much he loved me (and all of my impatience) did I realize what was going on! He then said “I really hope everyone was in position” as I watch his sister Allie crawl out from behind a sand dune, having recorded the entire proposal!
Next thing I know, both of our families are pulling up with bottles of champagne and glasses and we had a mini engagement celebration right on the Sea Girt pavilion. It was everything I could have ever imagined. He managed to get both of our families to be there AND do it in our favorite place in the world. Thanksgiving will now and forever hold a significantly special meaning in our hearts!
