How We Met
Matt and I have crossed paths since 2006. We both grew up in the same area in Florida and know a lot of the same people. We’ve attended the same weddings, birthday parties, and other events but were never introduced. Fast forward to February 2015, I was living in Vail, Colorado and he came to Vail on vacation and to snowboard. He was actually staying with a mutual friend who he grew up with. They were all out in Vail Village for Matt’s birthday which is February 20th. I was not supposed to go out that night but decided to last minute. I’m so glad I did. I ended up meeting up with friends and Matt at a bar called Shakedown. Our mutual friend Lindsey introduced us as soon as I walked down the stairs into that bar and the rest is history. We went on a few dates while Matt was still in Vail and then spoke every day after that. A few months later I moved back home to Florida.
How They Asked
The mountains of Colorado are such a special place for us since that is where we met almost 5 years ago. We had been planning a trip to Colorado since the beginning of the year to celebrate that I had finished school. I had no idea that Matt had also been planning to propose. He had picked out the ring in May and asked my parents for their blessing in late July. A lot of my family and friends knew about the proposal and everyone kept this huge secret because I had no idea. I always thought Matt would propose in Colorado, especially in Vail since that’s where we met. We spent 3 days in Vail and there was no proposal so I was convinced it wasn’t happening. This was his plan all along….He had been planning this for months with my best friend Emma who lives in Aspen. We drove to Aspen from Vail on September 26th and had the most perfect day. We took independence pass which is one of the most beautiful drives in the country. I thought we were staying with friends in Aspen and when we arrived Matt surprised me with the most beautiful suite at the St. Regis. We spent the afternoon relaxing and then he mentioned going to Maroon Bells before we were going to meet friends for dinner.
We arrived at Maroon Bells before sunset and started to walk along the trail. I asked him to keep walking and that’s when he stopped me and told me how much he loves me and then I honestly blacked out and couldn’t remember what else he said. Before I knew it he was on one knee asking me to marry him! Matt then pointed up in the distance and I saw my best friend Emma hiding in the trees and her friend who I had never met taking pictures behind us.
It was the most perfect moment and I’m so happy it was all documented so I can relive that moment forever. We celebrated at dinner that night and then went back to our room at the St. Regis which was decorated with balloons, wine, champagne and framed pictures of Matt and me throughout the years. It was so amazing and special and I had never felt so loved. We continued celebrating our engagement that weekend by going to Telluride which was the most perfect ending to our trip.
