How We Met
Like most modern-day relationships, Josh and I originally swiped right to each other on Tinder (Yes, dating apps do work sometimes! ?) Although a little conversation was exchanged, we swapped numbers. It wasn’t until a few months later we accidentally ran into each other at a Starbucks, both catching up on some graphic design work. Meeting in person for the first time unexpectedly was exciting and surprising, although it took yet another several months for us to hang out and spend some time together for the first time. We quickly realized how much we had in common, and almost instantaneously we became inseparable!
How They Asked
Fast forward to two and a half years later, Josh, his family, and I are ready to vacation in Italy! Although it sounds like an easy breezy trip, getting there was a whirlwind. Josh’s passport became invalid and he ended up having to stay back in the U.S. to get an emergency passport, along with missing half of the vacation! But little did I know what great memories this trip was about to bring! At the time it was such a bummer, but I ended up having a wonderful time spending the first 3 days of it with his family.
Finally, Josh flew in and we were reunited at last! Even though he missed visiting Rome and the Amalfi Coast, we looked forward to seeing Florence and Venice together. On the last day of our trip, we had plans to take in the sights of Venice, and of course, the best way to do that would be a gondola ride! While his family took one boat together, Josh and I had one all to ourselves. After floating through the water streets for a bit, Josh wanted to see if our gondolier would be willing to take a picture for us. Josh insisted that we stand for the picture, although I didn’t want to, thinking we could potentially tip the boat over! Our gondolier said it would be fine, so we stood up.
At that moment, Josh turned to me and began explaining how much I mean to him and that’s when I knew what was happening! He got down on one knee (without tipping the boat over!) and I, of course, said yes! He proposed with his grandmother’s ring (and he also tried putting it on the right ring finger rather than the left! ?)
But after we enjoyed the rest our or ride throughout Venice, and celebrated with pasta and Prosecco! It will definitely be the best gondola ride (and hopefully not the last!) I’ve ever had.
