How We Met
Derek and I met on a dating app. Both out of relationships and not looking for anything serious, we matched, texted for about a week and then agreed to have coffee. From that first moment I saw him I knew i was in trouble. As much as he tried to fight it at the start, we were basically inseparable from that moment on. We always joke around because a few weeks after we met he was telling his mom and about me and she asked what my name was. Derek said “don’t worry Mom you are never going to meet her” and about a week after that he asked me to meet his parents.
how they asked
He took me away for the weekend to give me a much needed break from work. He kept telling me over and over that it wasn’t a proposal trip. he still hadn’t talked to my parents and hadn’t had any time to even think about ring shopping. He reminded me everyday it wasn’t happening and not to have my hopes up. At this point I was totally thrown off and pretty much convinced myself it wasn’t going to happen. He woke me up at am on Saturday morning to take me on a sunrise hike since hiking is my favorite, and also where we had our first kiss. When we left our hotel room, it was freezing, cloudy, and raining. He insisted we go, much to my dismay. After trekking through the woods, soaking wet, we found a spot to sit to have our picnic breakfast he had packed.
I was sitting on a rock, wrapped in a blanket, cold and wet trying to enjoy some yogurt when Derek started to play our song on a pair of speakers he had brought. He sat down next to me and started telling me really sweet things.. my heart raced.. he turned around to grab something out of the cooler and turned around with a blue box, got down on his knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.
After about 5 minutes of being shocked and tears, I managed a yes…. All before 6.30 am!
