How We Met
Josh and I were both born and raised in small Connecticut towns and actually went to the same college, yet it took a cross-country adventure for us to meet in San Diego in the summer of 2014. He moved out there to be with his brother Zac who is a Marine, and I moved out about a month after he did for a summer internship. We were Facebook friends due to us having mutual friends from school, but never met in person before. He messaged me when he found out I was moving out there and on my third day on the west coast we decided to get lunch. I don’t think we spent another day apart that summer. I found myself falling in love with not only the city, but the man showing me around it.
how they asked
For my birthday this year, Josh surprised me with plane tickets back to San Diego (we moved home to Connecticut in 2015 to be closer to our families). I have been dying to go back to “where it all began” since we left so you can imagine how excited I was. We landed back on the west coast on Friday April 22nd, got lunch with his brother, and headed to one of our favorite places (and one of our first date spots!) Torrey Pines State Beach. We were crunched for time before our dinner reservations so I thought it was kind of strange how Josh was so eager to get to the beach. He isn’t quite the Type A, organized planner like I am so I was kind of surprised at his determination to get there.
Upon arriving at the beach, he immediately asked Zac to take some pictures of us by the water. Cue red flag #2 because I ALWAYS have to beg him to take (a million) pictures with me. At this point I knew he was being a total weirdo but I didn’t realize why until I turned to him after Zac snapped our picture and he was down on one knee! At this point everything he was saying was a blur as I was overwhelmed with emotion , but thankfully I heard, “Alessandra Nicole Daniele, will you marry me?” Of course I said YES and we got to celebrate all week in our favorite city.
