How We Met
We met at work but it definitely did not start romantic.
We barely talked at first, but we would always give each other a weird smile (purposely weird) whenever we walked by each other. A few months after he had started at the record store I realized I had a crush on him and decided to ask him out. However, that was it; it wasn’t our time yet.
A few months after that, he asked me out. My crush was still there so I was ecstatic. After a couple of months and a 9-day vacation (for me), he finally asked me out. Now we’ve been together for 5 1/2 years.
How They Asked
Well, he’d been trying for a few weeks apparently, he finally decided to do it the weekend after Thanksgiving. He casually brought up a little hike/walk up at Mt. Charleston. Since we hadn’t been there all quarantine and there was a little snow I was excited to go.
Now, it’s an important side note that I explain that we watched the show, MTV’s Friendzone the night before. This plays a role in the question.
So we get up there, mask at ready and water in hand. Thankfully the weather wasn’t too cold (i hate the cold). We were walking around, holding hands-on and off (trying to keep them warm in our pockets). We walked towards some snow patches only to realize they’re frozen so we kept walking and talking about the stream that forms during spring.
We finally get to this area where no one is really around and he says, “I have something to tell you. This was all fake”, to which I answered, “There is no blind date, this was all for me” (this is a reference to that Friendzone show). I laughed and started walking away. He then says, “But Ale, wait”. When I turn he’s on his knee pulling out the ring. He asked if I would marry him and I already have a smile from ear to ear. I get on one knee and say yes and kiss him so hard and hug him as tight as I can. We both get up and then he puts the ring on me.
We walk around a little and talk about the engagement. I ask him all these questions. We finally drive back to town. Get some Carl’s Jr. and Dunkin Donuts for lunch.
I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and “us” proposal :).
