How We Met
Charles and I met on August 17th, 2007 while we were both entering our 8th grade year and barely even teenagers. We both looked like the stereotypical teens wearing Abercrombie clothes with our white converse. I’ll never forget the “Zac Efron” look he had going on (who was my celebrity crush at the time) which made it even more exciting to say he was mine.
It all started on a seesaw at a park by the Youth Group we both attended. A teenage crush is all it was and we didn’t think we would ever make it this far…especially since he asked me to be his girlfriend after only a week of knowing me! August 26th, 2007 was the day my life changed for the better and little did I know I was already starting my life with my future HUSBAND. Growing up together, going to school, watching him at his soccer games and becoming prom Queen & King were only a few highlights of our teenage years. Our families have seen each of us grow and have also grown to love us like their own. Ten years later, we’ve decided to spend the rest of our lives together.
how they asked
He had told me to get ready for a “cocktail event” his job was having and I did not second guess any of it since it’s very normal for banks to host random events. As I got ready and slipped my dress on, the thought that I was getting ready for one of the greatest days of my life never came to mind. Charles was acting slightly different and a little nervous but I assumed his nerves were getting to him because all of the executives were going to be there. While we were driving over to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, we spoke about anything that came to mind. As we valet parked and made our way to the “event”, he grabbed my hand and led the way. Before approaching the double doors leading to the private lounge facing the ocean and city view, he turned around, kissed me and said “I love you”. I mumbled “I love you too” as I tried to focus on balancing on my heels. The waiters opened both doors and I began to hear the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran which is our song.
I walked down the beautiful path he had created (with help from our best friends and siblings) with lots of red roses and candles and just stood there in complete shock. I could not believe the day I had been dreaming of for years was officially here. As I finished looking at the pictures in the display, he grabbed my hands, told me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He dropped down on one knee and with a tear in his eye he asked me to marry him.
Still in complete shock, I looked at him and said YES! As he put the AMAZING ring on my finger, I turned around to see my sisters and some of my best friends cheering us on and rushing over to hug the both of us. My fiancé popped a bottle of champagne and we then toasted to our future together. We finished the night with a 5 course meal, lots of tears and laughter. I cannot wait until we say “I Do” next year and begin our journey as Mr. and Mrs.
