Alana and Tyler

how we met

Tyler and I met in physics lab at UNC Chapel Hill in 2015. We were assigned to be lab partners and the rest is history! We have been together ever since!

how they asked

Tyler: One of my priorities for the proposal was that Alana was completely surprised, which required a lot of planning. My future sister in-law had just had her first child, and he was being baptized. I had her plan a “baptismal photoshoot” for the baby in which we were all supposed to wear white. Since this wasn’t baby’s first photoshoot, Alana didn’t suspect a thing! She bought a new dress, got her nails done, and got all dressed up for the photoshoot. We all live very close to UNC’s campus, where me and Alana met, so we planned to have the photoshoot there! Our wonderful photographer took a few photos at the Old Well, a picturesque location on campus, and then we walked down to the arboretum to get a few more shots. I had white flowers, candles, and a bouquet waiting for us, and a guitar player was playing “Carolina in My Mind.” I took Alana by the hand, led her into the center of the display, and popped the question! She said yes and we got to have a wonderful photoshoot as fiancés! After the proposal we met both of our families at dinner, which was another surprise! As the final surprise, I invited all of Alana’s close friends to a local cocktail bar to continue the celebration! It was a perfect night full of love.

Alana: Looking back on the proposal I can’t believe I didn’t suspect anything. I think because my sister is so extra, and she had already planned many other photo shoots for the new baby, I just thought it was completely normal! When Tyler took my hand and led me into the center of a display of roses and candles, I still didn’t know what was going on. I was thinking “someone is planning something special here, we shouldn’t mess it up!” Once I saw the guitar player and I looked into Tyler’s eyes, I knew. I immediately started crying tears of joy! Tyler said, “our futures might be uncertain, but I am certain that I want to spend my future with you.” He asked me to be his wife and I couldn’t have been happier to say yes! The surprises continued as we went on to have dinner with our families, and then drinks with my closest friends! It was a beautiful, perfect, proposal.
