December 10th, 2016 was the best day of our lives! The night before, my then boyfriend told me to be ready by 11 am the following morning because he made brunch reservations in NYC then we would see the tree at Rockefeller. I was so excited. Who doesn’t love the holidays and brunch in NYC? It’s 11 am the next day and we are out the door. He told me “Uber” drove past his apartment and we would have to walk two blocks to catch it. “Typical” I thought. He called “Uber” to tell them to stay put and confirm the car. We were looking for a black sedan and when I saw it I made an Olympic running walk for it. Before I got too close, Drew pulled me off to the side and led me to the platform overlooking the city. All of a sudden I spot rose pedals at my feet and he is giving me a speech every girl dreams of hearing. Next thing I know he is down on one knee and he is proposing!
Tears of joy from the both of us. After he puts the most gorgeous ring on my finger, a photographer pops out and continues to snap photos.
Fast forward 10 minutes through more tears and poses, he tells me we should go back to his apartment and FaceTime our family to tell them the good news. Before I could even have a clear thought, we open his apartment door and it’s filled with our family, waiting and ready to celebrate. My knees buckled and I cried even more. Not only was I the surprised bride to be, but my fiancés family surprised him by flying in from Cincinnati for the big day too! We celebrated all day, and yes we eventually made it into the city that night to see the tree. P.S. If you’re wondering about our “Uber driver” Drew went to “the spot” the day before, ordered an uber, and took a screenshot of his GPS. He had this open as we walked out his apartment! When he pretended to call “Uber” it was really my sister to give her the green light to enter his apartment with our family and friends. Oh and the strategically parked black sedan was the photographer’s car… Well played! ?❤
