Proposal Ideas Central Park

How We Met

Dan and I actually met when I was in 8th grade and he was a freshman in high school. We were from the same town, but never really crossed paths since we were in different grades and had different friend groups. We started talking on MySpace (#tbt!), eventually moved onto AIM (also #tbt) and finally onto texting. He asked me out a few times with no success (I’m sorry!! <3 – the story has a happy ending, I promise). We dated other people in high school and went away to college, but always kept in touch despite never really spending any time together in person. We just had an unspoken bond that was undeniable — he understood me, I could just sense it. We both ended up settling in NYC, where he asked me out for drinks in November 2014… and [like a total cliché] the rest was history.

How They Asked

I’ve always been OBSESSED with Christmas… ask anyone that knows me. Dan and I had been talking about getting engaged for months, so I assumed he’d propose around Christmastime. He told me his company was hosting an ice skating event at Wollman Rink in Central Park on Saturday, December 21st. The night before, I started to get upset that maybe we weren’t going to get engaged before Christmas, after all – there were only 5 more days until Christmas. Plus, we were going on vacation to the Bahamas in January, so I kept telling myself that maybe it would happen there.

Assuming we were spending the day ice skating with his coworkers, I had no suspicion at all and had [resentfully] accepted that it just simply wasn’t going to happen before Christmas. As we approached the rink, Dan turned to his left and saw a beautiful view of The Plaza. “Let’s take a picture,” he suggested. We walked off the path down toward the pond to take a selfie. After snapping a couple of pics, he turned toward me and started telling me how much he loves me and that’s when I basically blacked out.

Where to Propose in Central Park

Before I knew it, he was reaching into his pocket and was down on one knee asking me to marry him with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen! I was SO surprised and over the moon EXCITED! A photographer appeared seemingly out of nowhere and captured it all. It was the most magical surprise of my life!
