How They Asked
The most magical day of my life, the 13th of September 2018. We were on holiday in New York and Dave had booked a helicopter ride for the Monday which we were all excited for but it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to. Monday morning we woke up to the most miserable weather and gale-force winds. We were determined to go so we did and we got drenched with rain on the way there. Finally arrived at the helipad to be told that all flying had to be postponed until the wind calms down. So they said they would do their best to get us out that week. I had no idea that Dave had planned the whole proposal and had to cancel it all when he was told we wouldn’t be flying. Unbeknownst to me, he had the ring hidden in a little bag in his pocket.
Finally, we got the call on Thursday to say that they were going to be able to fly us. The sun began to shine as we had arrived at the helipad. The first bit of sun we had seen all week. We flew around New York City and as we were starting to land Dave looked as if he was going to be sick. I thought it was the pizza he had eaten an hour before … We landed and the guy working with the helicopter company was standing to wait for us with a camera. He said he wanted to take a photo that we could buy later so I went along with it.
As we went to take the photo Dave got down on one knee, can’t remember a word he said because I was so surprised. It was the most incredible day. He had the whole day planned to a tee and we got to celebrate our engagement with my sister and her boyfriend. I’m so lucky to be getting married to the love of my life and my love of 8 years.
