how we met
Our first date was coffee at a bakery in Georgetown (Baked and Wired) and then we walked around the Georgetown waterfront and talked. We had our first kiss in front of a yellow house in Georgetown, featured in our engagement photos.
how they asked
We travel quite a bit and in March of 2018, we were on vacation in Portugal and Spain. The day he proposed, we were in Sintra, Portugal, a magical town of of the cost west of Lisbon. Our trip in Portugal had been complicated by lots of rain and cold as there was an odd, unprecedented tropical storm in the Atlantic just off the cost (this was the same time when it snowed in Venice, Italy, etc. odd weather patterns all around). Our day in Sintra was cloudy but we found out that sunset was actually going to be sunny so we planned to head to the coast to see the sunset at Cabo da Roca, the most western point of mainland Europe. I was really excited to finally get a moment of good weather. We were walking the cliffs and it was stunning and Matt asked me if there was anything that could make that day better. I said, don’t be silly, this day was amazing. He got down on one knee and proposed and my response was utter shock, I said, “Are you serious right now?! Yes!”. A European stranger (I don’t know his name to this day) who photographs happen to be nearby and took some shots and surprised us with them; I cried to that stranger and he later emailed us the photos. We ate dinner at a hole-in-the-wall family restaurant that night and it was amazing. When later asked, Matt says that he had brought the ring to Portugal but had zero plans as to how or when he would do it. He waited for the perfect time and knew at sunset, with a rainbow behind us, that was it. This later explained why he was so weird about taking his backpack everywhere!
