How We Met

Marcus and I met at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) as freshmen in 2009. We had a general chemistry lab class together and never spoke more than “hi” and “bye” to one another. We remained cordial throughout our undergraduate careers, still saying no more than “hi” or “bye”. I graduated in 2013 from the FAMU’s School of Allied Health Sciences then when to Alabama for Occupational Therapy School. Marcus stayed at FAMU to complete the pharmacy program from which he graduated in 2015 with a Pharm D.

During our undergraduate career, we both experienced troubled relationships with other people. We lost hope for love then decided to give our lives to Christ and to do things GOD’s way. One day, Marcus started a Bible verse challenge on Facebook encouraging his Facebook friends to share their favorite verses. I shared my favorite verse as well as a sermon I watched on YouTube. Marcus watched the sermon I sent, then messaged me to let me know how the sermon really helped him. We began to study the Bible together, then we started courting (on March 24th, 2015). We decided we would keep our covenant to GOD, and not do anything that may cause temptation. So we set boundaries: we would not kiss, stay on the phone too late at night, not live together. We would instead spend time doing community service, praying, and evangelizing. Our courtship has truly grown our faith. A little less than a year later, we were engaged to be married on 3/20/16.

how they asked

A month before the proposal, he suggested we celebrate our 1 year anniversary on the beach in Florida. He knows I love the beach so I agreed with excitement to that idea. We spent that weekend sight seeing and enjoying each other’s company from Friday-Sunday. Before we got ready to leave, he told me to put on a nice dress so we could go out to the beach to take photos. So I did just that because I very excited to celebrate and capture the moment.

As we were walking to the beach, he asked me to close my eyes and he held my hand. I wanted to ask a million questions but I trusted him and followed his lead. When I opened my eyes, before me was a huge sand castle and I was completely blown away.

He then began to speak about how much he loved me, and how I was the wind beneath his wings. He then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, which still brings me to tears this day. We will share our first kiss on our wedding day before friends and family on December 3rd, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia.
