Brandon and I met in 2012. I was entering my freshman year of high school and he was a junior at the time. I decided to join the percussion section in band, and I always knew him as the cute guy on drum line. In the second semester, we got paired up on the same drum for a song. We went from practicing together after school to becoming best friends. Brandon quickly became someone I spent all my time with and shared my deepest secrets. A couple months later he asked me to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to present day, we have been together for 5 years! Brandon was my best friend and high school sweetheart, someone I always knew I wanted to spend forever with.
The proposal took place at our favorite brunch spot, Luci’s! We spend many days there, so when he pitched the idea for a brunch date I thought nothing of it. We ordered our favorite dishes, sat on the beautiful lawn, and enjoyed our meal together. Afterward, he turned to me and said “I found a poem I wrote you from 2015, want to hear it?” (Throughout our relationship he would surprise me with poems he wrote, SO cute!). The poem was beautiful, and I was already in tears. Before I could even tell him how beautiful it was he quickly adds “I also wrote you a new poem”. At this point, butterflies flooded my tummy. I don’t remember the majority of the poem because I was just sobbing into my lap! But the end of the poem read “for a while now my heart you’ve carried, I think it’s about time we get married”, and next thing I know he is on one knee asking me to marry him (which obviously makes me cry even more). Once I finally look up, I see my best friend and our lovely photographer behind a bush, capturing the entire thing!
I couldn’t ask for a sweeter proposal or a sweeter man to marry!
