How We Met: Garrett and I met in Austin in December 2012. Our mutual friend Emily, whom Garrett knew from going to high school with her in Australia and I knew from college, was in town for a few days. We went to Sixth Street with a big group of people and we clicked immediately. I was really attracted to Garrett’s sense of humor and sweet personality; while Garrett claims he thought I was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. We got separated for some of the night, but Garrett’s early morning Facebook friend request suggested he was interested. :) After a few conversations and an exchanging of phone numbers, he asked me to go out with him on New Year’s Eve and I said yes. Although nervous about hanging out with a guy I barely knew on such a big night, I knew right away that I had made the right decision after feeling an instant chemistry that I had never felt before. Since he lived in Oklahoma and I lived in Austin, I didn’t know when I would see him again after that. But a few weeks later he flew me out to New Orleans for his fraternity formal, I became his girlfriend, and the rest is history!
how they asked: Garrett and I were staying at his aunt and uncle’s lake cabin in Austin for our anniversary weekend. While I was getting ready for dinner, somehow Garrett managed to set everything up for the proposal. I should have known what was up, I remember him pacing around a bit and asking him “Why are you sweating?!” After I was done getting ready, Garrett led me outside to the two story deck of the lake house. On each step, there was a big picture of us during his favorite memories that we’ve had together, which told the story of our relationship.
When we got to the top, Garrett told me he wanted to continue making memories with me as his wife, and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes – I was so surprised!
He then told me to look to my left, as we had a wonderful photographer capture the entire thing!
