How We Met

So our “how we met” story isn’t the most romantic or cute, but at least we met right? We first met at Taylor’s best friend’s wedding. Taylor was the best man, and I was there on a date with the guy I was dating at the time. I didn’t know anyone at the wedding but my date introduced me to Taylor because they were really good friends. So yes, I dated Taylor’s good friend and that is how we met. After we broke up, Taylor and I had kept in touch as friends for about 5 months. A few months ago, I was dying for Taylor to ask me out but he didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes so I just had to make the first move and then he asked his friend if he could take me out, and it finally happened. And it was the best first date I have ever had! My cheeks were hurting from laughing so much and he had planned the most amazing date for me! I was in love from that day on.

how they asked

So the Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Tay wanted to make it a very special day for me, as you can see. But I had no idea how special it would turn out, this moment was beyond compare and almost indescribable. We were at his house with his family and we were suppose to be leaving for fireworks in about 45 minutes when Tay’s dad called and told him that he needed him and all of his siblings to come help him fix his boat that they had just crashed while boating. To be honest, I was a little annoyed. They all left me at the house with their mom, and shortly after, his brother came back and said it would be another 30 minutes until the boat would be fixed. He asked his mom if she had gotten the ingredients for root beer floats for that night and she said she had forgotten so she left to go get them. So I was stuck at Tay’s house with his brother, Parker.

About 20 minutes went by and his brother asked if I wanted to go off roading while we were waiting since he had Tay’s jeep. I agreed, not having anything else to do, and off we went. We started up the mountain were Taylor first took me on our first date and a few weeks later he asked me to be his girlfriend there. I still had no idea what was about to happen, I just assumed his brother was taking me on a ride to keep me company. I mentioned to Parker that Tay and I had our first date here. He acted like he had no idea. This overlook is so gorgeous, it shows the view of Taylor’s hometown of Bountiful and that night we had a beautiful sunset.

The further we went up, I started to see twinkling lights and for a second thought we might be interrupting someone’s Fourth of July party. But then we came to the signs and my heart stopped. I was overwhelmed when I realized that they were not really helping their dad with the boat, they had been setting up a beautiful proposal.

As I walked down the path, reading the signs, I was filled with an insane amount of joy that I had never before felt. Then I saw him. Taylor was at the end of the rose petal path looking so handsome. I couldn’t help but cry in gratefulness for the blessing Taylor is in my life and the fact the he was about to get down on one knee made me happier than I ever thought possible. I ran to hug him when I got close enough, then we danced to our song that we’ve danced to many times before, and then he asked. He asked the question I have been waiting to hear from this man my whole life.

When people say, “when you know, you know.” it is so true. I never knew who it was that I would end up with. But I am more than thankful it is Taylor. I could not choose a better lifelong companion for myself, I think we were truly made for each other.

After he proposed his little brother, Isaac, lit off beautiful fireworks.

But even though they might have been beautiful, they were illegal…so all of the sudden we look down the mountain and see a fire truck and multiple police cars.

We hurried to pack everything in the cars and drive down before they knew it was us, but three cop cars were waiting and we spent the rest of the night getting lectures from police men and fire department men. It was quite the ending to the most amazing night of my life. But it is a story we will tell for years to come. We still haven’t heard from the police department about a court date, so let’s hope that we never will. I love you Tay. Thank you for making me the happiest and luckiest girl in the world, and for the most amazing proposal. I can’t wait to start our forever with you.
