how we met
I am a woman of signs. I carefully sorted my Match.com criteria and asked specifically for a blue-eyed, business-minded adventurer and voila! Todd came just in time! According to Match.com, Todd and I are a 93% match. Todd messaged me with his witty username: balloons4fun and a subject line: “Dream Big” which immediately caught my attention. Needless to say, we both gave the 93% compatibility a shot. Our first date on October 23, 2014 was over-the-top, literally!
Todd took me on a private helicopter ride to watch the sunset in Malibu. We also enjoyed flying over Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and downtown Los Angeles. After an hour, we flew back to Universal City for a nice sushi dinner at Wasabi and capped the night attending Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. What a perfect date it was! In Todd’s exact words, “I know I’m setting the bar high for a first date, but I guess you’ll just know when it’s worth it.”
The next day, October 24th, was Todd’s 40th Birthday. Little did he know, I also prepared something special for him. we started the day early with jet-packing in Newport Beach at 9am, followed by a seaside brunch at the 3 Thirty 3 Waterfront Restaurant. When we drove back to downtown LA to freshen up at the JW Marriott before heading to dinner at the WP24 at the Ritz-Carlton. I knew that Todd loves the city lights and thought that it would be ideal to take him to one of the tallest buildings in Los Angeles. After dinner, I asked him to walk with me to LA Live. As we passed Lucky Strike, I said I wanted to bowl, so we went inside. This was when the real surprise was revealed. As Todd entered the place, he started to recognize familiar faces inside the lounge.
What he didn’t know was that I had managed to call for a surprise birthday party with his friends (who I hadn’t even met yet!) prior to our first date! How did this happen?? Well, I am an event planner after all! The first two days we shared together were full of surprises and we have been inseparable since.
how they asked
Exactly a year later, at Todd’s “supposed” surprise birthday party, Todd popped the question. I thought I was the one with the big birthday surprise for him! He admitted later on that he knew everything about the party, and he made it work to his advantage. So I was totally clueless! Clever guy! He came to the bowling place the day before his birthday for site inspection, and bingo!
They have five big screens at the place, which were just perfect for his proposal slideshow. Honestly, when I saw his video up on the five screens at the end of the bowling lanes, I thought that he prepared a dance routine for his birthday… I was anxious and seriously waiting for him to start dancing!
It only sank in that the video was for me at the middle part of his slideshow. I missed his first two gigantic cardboards or old school flash cards, because I was anticipating something else. But I could never ask for anything more than this! It was the most perfect surprise proposal for me.
And the RING, yes the ring was PERFECT! It is so ME! I love that he knows my taste! This is why I LOVE this man so much. He’s ALWAYS two steps ahead of me. #CheersToLove
