How We Met
It all started one night when I was in graduate school in Nashville, TN. I was sitting in a night class working toward my Master’s Degree, when I get a text from my good friend, Maggie! I had met Maggie through Care.com of all things, when I was looking for a nannying job. She texted me asking if I was interested in going on a blind date. Hesitant at first, once Maggie showed me a picture of Adam I immediately agreed to the date. A couple weeks passed, and Adam FINALLY called me. This totally freaked me out at first, because I was used to guys texting, but it showed me how thoughtful Adam was. He planned a surprise date for us, and sent me a clue a day the week leading up to our date.
I was instructed to wear something nice and shoes that I was comfortable walking in. Adam picked me up on a Tuesday night, and he had made reservations for us to eat at Germantowne Cafe in Nashville. We had a long dinner talking about our pasts, goals, and values. He was making me laugh constantly, and he had the most contagious smile. After dinner, we went on a long walk around the state capital through the Bicentennial Mall. We instantly connected that night, and we spent the rest of the week going to a Predator’s hockey game, grabbing sushi out, and meeting each other’s roommates. What I thought was just going to be a casual night of dinner and drinks turned into the most important date of my life!
how they asked
Fast forward to September of 2016. Adam and I had completely fallen in love with each other in just under a year, and we knew we could not imagine a life without the other. His sister and brother-in-law were coming to visit us in Nashville, TN, along with their newborn baby girl. I was under the impression that we were going to have a “big weekend out” for the new parents, since it was so soon after the baby had arrived. Little did I know this weekend was about to be ALL about me. It was Saturday morning, and we loaded up in the car to grab brunch at one of Nashville’s most famous spots – The Acme Feed and Seed right on Broadway. After getting out of the car and walking for a bit, we happened to run into two of Adam’s best friends (or so I thought).
They work as videographers, creating promotional videos for some of Nashville’s best local spots. I was told they were doing a special on “Nashville Natives,” which I am one of the few remaining in the Music City! I was quick to volunteer for an interview. After a serious of questions, they finally asked what brought us downtown for the day. Adam was quick to take the lead on this one. As he told them we were here for a special reason, he turned and got down on one knee, followed by displaying the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.
It was the most life altering question I had ever been asked, and also the easiest to answer “YES!” Just when I thought it could not get any better, cheers erupted from the rooftop of Acme. Adam had arranged for our parents to watch the whole thing from above. The rest of the day was spent sipping champagne on the rooftop and celebrating with our closest friends and families.
