How We Met
Evan and I first met when he asked me to ride four-wheelers as a date. We went up to catfish ATV trails and ponds and we both learned pretty quickly we had a lot in common and wanted to see more of each other. When we got into his four runners to go back he played the song “far away” by Nickelback. I told him I loved that song and he said he did too. Ever since that, it’s always been our song. After I came home I was so giddy and my mom asked me why I was. I told her I had met a really awesome guy and it just felt like I had known him forever. She said, “you know what that means right?” I told her no and she said “that’s usually when you met the one”. She was right.
He asked me on another date that night when our first date was over and we went to go see a movie the next day. After the movie, we talked in my Jeep Wrangler for hours. We laughed and just talked about everything. We have always been able to just talk forever. I knew he was the one that night. We have known each other for almost 6 years now but it feels like a lifetime. We took this picture that day we rode four-wheelers. Let me remind you this was December 10th, 2016 so it’s kind of funny. January 10th he asked me to be his girlfriend. It was perfect because it was snow on the ground and we both loved snow. It seems to follow us around on really special days. As you can see the proposal was that way too.
How They Asked
Here is the big story!
Evan and I went on a trip to Jackson Wyoming. We rode snowmobiles, sleigh rides in the elk refuge, and lots of other great adventures. December 19th felt different to me. Our plans were to go sightseeing in the Grand Tetons and skiing after. It was super cold that day if I had to guess was probably in the teens. Everyone was dressing up. I got really nervous because why was everyone dressing up to go do these outdoor things? My sister came into my room that morning and asked what I was going to wear. I told her I didn’t know and I was going to dress comfortably. She said I think you should wear your coat with the fur. She also helped me put makeup on so I felt like I knew what was going on. We got into the car and started to head to go sightseeing. I felt so nervous because I really felt like this was it. We pulled off into a side road which led to a place called blacktail ponds overlook. It’s a beautiful view of the Grand Tetons, wildlife, rivers, and more. Evan took a selfie with me which was the cue to the photographer he was getting ready to pop the question. Anna laid a blanket out and Evan took my hand and led me over to it. He was smiling so big and I could tell he was nervous but I’ve never seen him so happy. He said he will always be by my side and he would never leave me. He would always be here and to never question that. He said more than just that but I was so excited and at the moment all I could think of was just him, how much I loved him and seeing his face light up. He said will you marry me? And I said yes I will.
The ring is actually my mother’s band with a diamond put on top. Her band was melted down with my dad’s and made into a beautiful ring. I relive that whole moment constantly. After that, two swans flew over. I added the two photos they are in. I thank God for such a wonderful gift to send us at that moment. They are symbols of enduring love, immortalized in story, song, and poetry. Everyone knows that swans mate for life, staying faithfully together until one dies. When we took more pictures an eagle came and sat and watched us too. Google says An eagle crossing your path could also warn you not to take the easy path for fear of avoiding a challenge. The eagle reminds you that growth and strength happen when you face your challenges and rise above them. This is the behavior of a leader. The keyword for an eagle crossing your path is: victory. I also see it as strength. We have overcome hard times and things put in our path to stop us but our love powered through every time. This is truly a God story. I couldn’t have asked for it to work out any better. Fun fact, me and Evan had our first kiss on the top of smith mountain lake and he asked me to be his girlfriend in the snow. Our proposal story contains both and I think that’s really cool. I can not wait to finally get to marry the love of my life.
