How We Met
Shawn and I met on Match.com in October 2011. I “winked” at him because I thought he was cute and we had similar interests. He went a step further and wrote me a sweet first message. We messaged each other for a few weeks before going on our first date in Minneapolis. Our first date included apps and drinks at Cafe & Bar Lurcat in Loring Park, a gallery opening event at the Walker Art Center and a late night stroll across the Stone Arch Bridge. After that night we began spending more and more time with one another and developed a loving and caring relationship.
how they asked
October 21, 2018 – Our 7 Year Dating Anniversary.
We planned to go to Pine Tree Apple Orchard as we always did in the autumn. Typically we go somewhere around our dating anniversary (October 21st) every year and like to wait until the temps are officially cooler. This year Shawn was pretty adamant that we arrived at the orchard at 9:00 a.m. when they opened on Sunday. He said he wanted to beat the groups of people and enjoy the orchard before it got crowded – which seemed completely legitimate as neither one of us likes crowds. We stopped and got lattes on the way to the orchard, just like we always do. When we got to the orchard, we went inside and got our usual: an apple cinnamon donut for me and an apple turnover for him. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, nice and sunny with blue skies. We sat and chatted and enjoyed our yummy treats.
Afterward, Shawn asked if I wanted to walk down to the lake and take some pictures – like we always do. There’s a really beautiful spot at the orchard that overlooks a lake and always has beautiful trees and views down there. We usually go down there and snap a few photos. It was right there, in the beautiful setting by the lake, that my best friend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with the most gorgeous ring and completely surprised me with the sweetest proposal. There were smiles, hugs, tears, and kisses as I said yes to spending my life with him.
We started to walk back up to the rest of the orchard when he shared another secret with me – he had hired a photographer to capture the moment and we were now going to take some photos with her around the orchard. I was blown away – he had thought of every little detail. If you know me, you know that photographs are one of my most prized possessions – they are how I cherish all my memories. Our photographer, Cassie of NarrowLeaf Photography, and her boyfriend (her second shooter) Michael were incredibly wonderful to walk around and take photos with. We had so much fun with them.
We took a warm-up break and grabbed some hot apple cider before finishing up some photos. We continued the excitement of the day as we went and told our parents the exciting news! The fun continued as we told friends and family over the next few days. We are so excited to get married and start this next step in our journey.
