How We Met
As fate would have it, Abby and Nathan first met when they walked down the aisle together. Abby and Nathan were a bridesmaid and groomsman, respectively, in a wedding in July of 2015. Unbeknownst to Abby, the bride and groom wanted to play matchmaker and told Nathan they were having him walk with Abby down the aisle in the hopes that sparks would fly. While reluctant to the idea of being set up, Nathan quickly changed his mind when he first saw Abby at the rehearsal. The next day at the wedding, Nathan asked Abby to dance, and they later performed a karaoke duet of “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Stars aligned and Nathan got Abby’s phone number that night. On their first date that summer, Nathan took Abby mini golfing, to a malt shop, and then on a whim he walked her into a flower shop and asked for “their most expensive flowers.” Abby walked out of that flower shop with a look of shock on her face and a beautiful bouquet of stargazer lilies. Over a year after that first date, and many trips between Minnesota and Iowa, Abby went to St. Paul to visit Nathan. The couple was supposed to meet Abby’s twin sister and her boyfriend
for lunch, but they were running a bit early. Because they had some extra time, Nathan pulled up “coincidentally” to the same flower shop and said he needed to buy a card. Abby and Nathan browsed the store for a few minutes, looking at cards, and Nathan jokingly asked whether or not he should ask for the same flowers again. Without further ado, he walked up to the sales woman and asked for “their most expensive flowers.” The sales woman said she might have just the thing, and went into the back room to grab something. When she came out, she was carrying a beautiful pre-made bouquet with the same stargazer lilies, and a ring box on top. Nathan then got down on one knee and asked Abby to marry him in the same flower shop that they went to on their first date.
