Abby and Michael
How We Met
5 years ago, Michael and I both swiped right on Tinder. Surely, you’ve heard the saying, “slow and steady wins the race.” Well, that’s precisely been the gist of our love story. After our connection was made via Tinder, we got to know one another through conversation for a while, before finally meeting in person after approximately two months. At the time, I was residing in Columbus, Ohio, and Mike was in Dayton, Ohio- the two cities are just over an hour from one another, so, making plans to see each other was much more difficult than “let’s grab a drink tonight,” and on top of that, Mike was traveling a great deal for work. I’ll never forget that first date over beers at (the now closed) Caddy’s Tap House in Beavercreek, Ohio on December 21st, 2014. We made an instant connection. It was one of those life-altering conversations that you know for certain will change the course of your whole life. I was oh, so swoon. I’m fairly certain that I grinned from ear-to-ear during my entire hour drive home. After that night, we continued to get to know one another and made plans together once a month for the next year and a half (I wasn’t kidding when I said “slow and steady!”). If it would’ve been up to me, we would’ve seen each other every week (I can be quite impatient), but that’s one of the great things about our relationship- we balance each other out in the best ways.
In 2016, our relationship progressed, and we were spending every weekend together. We’d take turns spending time in both Columbus, and Dayton. After another year, I couldn’t help but wonder, “when will we move in together?” After all, at this point, we had been long-distance for over 2 years. Well, in the spring of 2017, Mike learned that his employer wanted him to be in Florida in order to be closer to one of his accounts. Of course I was devastated, until he asked “do you want to move to Florida?” That was undoubtedly one of the easiest questions that I’ve ever had to answer. In June of 2017, I packed up everything that would fit in my car, and made the 15+ hour drive to our new home in downtown St. Petersburg, FL- which is where we still happily reside today!
How They Asked
On Saturday, October 26, 2019, a casual sunset boat ride turned into the best day of my life. Michael booked an evening cruise on a sailboat to enjoy with two of our dearest friends. We were in our Uber and running a few minutes behind, and my panic was apparent (if you know me, you know that I’m quite the worrier). It was then, that I was informed that our sunset sail was private, and would just consist the four of us, and I was immediately equal parts relieved and ecstatic. A Yeti full of fabulous wine, the best of company, and a sailboat to ourselves on a beautiful night- how could the evening possibly get better, right? Well, halfway through the cruise, Michael asked if he and I could take a picture (and if you know Michael, you know that he avoids pictures like the plague), and I was the utmost confused. During said picture, the man of my dreams got down on one knee and asked me to spend his life with him. Of course, I said “yes,” and the tears began to flow from the both of us. It was the most romantic, and amazing moment of my life! We then proceeded to celebrate with a bottle of Dom Perignon, thanks to our INCREDIBLE friends, and witnessed the most amazing sunset on the Gulf. Since then, we have been on cloud nine.
