How We Met
So, 7 years ago Matt and I met through mutual friends. I introduced his best friend Josh to my best friend Tab (who has now been married for 4 years now). The details of the first time we met are a little blurry because I remember meeting at our church for the first time but he doesn’t remember it that way…he’s unsure. I remember thinking he was funny and cute and I loved his personality, but we stayed friends for a while and just got to know each other.
Four years later, feelings started developing. It was odd because we were such close friends, but it just felt super right. We were both nervous to cross that line from friends to more than friends, but thank the Lord that we did because it has been truly incredible. Being friends before dating is a game-changer and is exactly what worked for us! We will celebrate 3 years of dating this November. :)
How They Asked
Matt wrote a song for me for our one year anniversary of dating. He would always mention how he was so excited to play it for me and I would get so excited to hear it and then he would say how he wanted to get it professionally recorded and play it for me. I immediately thought “Okay…this is how he’s gonna propose!” So several months went by and he did not mention the song and I kept thinking he forgot. So I would occasionally bring it up or sometimes he would bring it up.
Well, before we celebrated our two year anniversary, he told me he was going to a friend’s studio to get “my” song recorded along with another one he had written. I got so giddy because I thought he was going to use it to propose. He got the recorded song back from his friend and asked if I wanted to hear it. So, we drove to Wendy’s for dinner and he played it for me. I’ll be honest, I was so excited to hear it and loved every single lyric of the song, but I was a little bummed that he was not using it to propose.
So, because I say everything that I’m thinking, I told him that I thought he was going to propose using this song. After he actually proposed, he told me that moment is what made him realize that he did want to use this song in some way to propose. So, flash forward to September 19, 2020. The day my best friend proposed to me.
He used all of our best friends to help set up a projector screen outside on this huge helipad and played his music video to THAT song for me. I wept because of how sweet it was and how much time Matt and all our friends invested in it. It was the sweetest, most perfect video. After the video, I turned around and saw Matt waiting to propose. I can’t tell you a word he said, but I am still giddy from that day. It was the most perfect day of my life.
