How we met: I first saw Melissa on a night out in Haarlem, the Netherlands where we are from. It was her smile that drew me in. I was hooked. Since then we have been inseparable. We are best friends and soulmates. I couldn’t wait to ask her to spend the rest of our lives together.
how they asked: Melissa and I started planning a trip to western Canada for a holiday. I had been thinking of proposing to her for while and knew that this trip would be the perfect opportunity. About four months before leaving for our trip, I decided I wanted to have our proposal photographed. I wanted us to remember this moment forever. I started doing research on the Canadian Rocky Mountains and stumbled upon Emerald Lake Lodge in Field, British Columbia. The lush scenery and turquoise waters were perfect. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to propose there. Hiding the ring from Melissa was the hardest part of the whole proposal. I hid the ring box in one of my socks in our luggage the whole trip. Luckily, she never found it. On June 28th we spent the morning enjoying the views at Emerald Lake Lodge.
Emerald Lake was clear as glass that morning, so we decided to take a canoe ride to enjoy the scenery better.
This was the moment.
In the middle of the emerald waters I pulled the ring out of my pocket and asked Melissa to marry me.
The moment was spectacular. It was everything I dreamed of.
