Here at HowTheyAsked we’ve seen it all. We’ve read thousands of proposal stories and adore each and every one of them. What they have in common? It was the best day ever! It doesn’t matter how long you and your S.I. have been together or how many times you plotted the perfect proposal in your head, there are a few things you just don’t find out until you actually get engaged. You thought that…
1. Size Matters
Let’s be real: you definitely left photos of that Tiffany six-prong solitaire around for your guy to find or you went with him to pick out the ring yourself, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is what the engagement ring symbolizes – your commitment to each other. It doesn’t have to be the biggest rock on the block to fit your personal style (or budget!).
2. It would be the biggest surprise ever
Kudos to the guy who pulls of a surprise proposal that racks up a million views on Youtube (we know that takes a ton of time and planning), but it doesn’t have to go viral to be special. A quiet and intimate proposal can be just as romantic even if you smell it coming a mile away.
3. You would have it all together
Student loans paid off. Check. Great job. Check. Getting all your ducks in a row is key before committing yourself to another person, but life doesn’t always go the way we plan. And it’s okay!
4. Everyone would be thrilled
Don’t take this one personally. There’s usually at least one person out there who may not be as excited as the rest of your friends and family about your newly engaged status, but don’t sweat the negative feedback. It’s not you. Your best friends will be ready to celebrate and help you with whatever you need.
5. You couldn’t possibly love him more
There’s something about seeing your guy on one knee that makes you feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Plus, having a ring on your finger that you can’t stop staring at is a constant reminder of that moment. You’ll wonder how you could love a person so much already and then find yourself loving him even more than before.
Congratulations to all our brides-to-be! If you haven’t sent in your proposal story to how they asked yet, we want to hear all about it. Submit your proposal here.
